Which Pet Allergy Model Is Right for You?

Start with one question: is the complaint the allergy, the smell, or both? That decides the series. Coverage area and HEPA grade decide the model.

Why pet dander is harder than household dust: Dust mite allergen rides on large debris that settles out of the air within minutes, which is why filtration matters less for dust than most people assume. Cat and dog allergen behaves the opposite way. A meaningful share of it travels on particles under a few microns, so it stays suspended for hours and recirculates every time someone walks through the room. That is why a pet allergy unit earns its keep running continuously rather than in bursts, and why the Super HEPA models are worth the step up here even though they are optional on a dust page.

Why HEPA alone will not fix the smell: Pet odour is gas phase. It is not a particle, so no HEPA filter of any grade removes it. The R series carries an 18 lb activated carbon bed alongside the HEPA stage, which handles the sebum, bedding, and waste compounds behind general dog and cat odour. If your complaint is purely the allergy and the room does not smell, the I series puts every bit of airflow through particle capture instead.

Why litter boxes need different carbon: Litter box odour is mostly ammonia, and ammonia is a small polar molecule that plain activated carbon adsorbs poorly. The F series uses a potassium permanganate impregnated carbon blend that oxidizes ammonia rather than relying on adsorption alone. If you have more than one cat, an enclosed box, or a dedicated litter room, choose F over R.

Plan for filter load: Homes and facilities with animals load prefilters faster than almost any other application, because pet hair blinds the prefilter long before the HEPA stage is exhausted.
